In the summer of 1965, just after graduating from engineering university, two young engineers launched a firm, I am one of them. However, the take-off was rough and difficult. Our initial effort failed after the launch of the company due to a lack of experience and shortcomings. We wrapped up and found a job elsewhere. After four years of my service life, I was fully convinced to move into business as I did not have a knack to be a service holder. As a result, I quit my lucrative job and re-launched the firm, it was 1969. This time I was all alone without any partner. Though there were some teething problems, the firm was poised to grow and reap benefits.

Initially, we concentrated on power sector contracts only but later we expanded our activities to the field of civil, mechanical, and engineering contracts. I kept the name of the company the same as it was during its birth- “THE BENGAL ELECTRIC LIMITED (BEL)” and in 1977 we registered it as a private limited company.

Over the last three decades, BEL has been engaged in various sectors. However, in the power sector, the company’s achievement is quite remarkable which can be gauged from the fact that the generation capacity of the power plants constructed by BEL is 4800 MW, which is one-fifth of the country’s capacity.

We are an ISO 9001:2015 certified company. We can do the heavy lifting and mechanical erection and transportation by using our own fleets both on land and water. We have built 2000 tons of cranes to lift and salvage sunken vessels. For transporting heavy lifting cargo, we have our 250-ton capacity rail trolley. Since our inception, we have excelled in building our competitive edge by taking up challenging projects and successfully delivering those projects.

BEL would like to take part in the country’s economic growth. Our company believes in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) to provide direct benefit to our people. Keeping this view in mind BEL has established a school where more than 300 students are receiving free education. We also run Free
Friday Clinic, awarding scholarships to students, installing hygienic sanitation programs in rural areas, and free food distribution programs for the destitute.
